New markets in hours, not weeks
A global cycling brand sold through separate storefronts for the US, Canada, Australia, the UK, and the EU. Consolidating them with Shopify Markets cut launch time from weeks to hours and cut costs in half.
The problem
The brand ran five separate Shopify storefronts: the US, Canada, Australia, the UK, and the EU. Every routine change had to be made five times. Weekly software release notes went up on all five sites, blog posts twice a month on all five, and each new product meant five sets of product records to create and keep in sync.
Yet all five stores sold from the same inventory and the same fulfillment operation. The only real differences between them were price and language, which is exactly what Shopify Markets handles in one store.
Background
Ambaum had rebuilt the brand on Shopify Plus, with custom templates, metafields for regional product content such as tax and shipping details, and Shopify Flow automations. I managed the account from 2022, handling the recurring updates across all five sites and proposed a conversion-focused redesign of the homepage and flagship product page.
Getting to one store
- Mapped the catalog. Matched every product across the five stores and built a single sheet of availability and price for each market.
- Moved to Shopify Markets. Consolidated the international storefronts so pricing and availability for every market run from one store.
- Checked every page. Reviewed each product page in preview against a copy map before launch.
- Routed visitors. Used geolocation redirects to send shoppers to the right market.
My role
Project manager at Ambaum. I owned the client relationship and the migration plan, built the product and pricing maps, directed the developers through the build and QA, and trained the client team on Shopify.
The result
Launching in a market went from weeks to hours, and costs fell by half.
